Jason Beghe: Alex Gibney’s Prime‑Time Thug

Alex Gibney source Jason Beghe plays a cop on TV. But what you’ll see here that Alex Gibney won’t show you is this hair-trigger hothead’s starring role in real-life brushes with the law with Beghe’s signature violent outbursts. It’s the kind of behavior that got him expelled from the Church. One who knows firsthand is the process server who was just doing his job when, accompanied by his future wife, he drove to Beghe’s home to serve him court papers. Beghe greeted him with a crazed flurry of fists. When the man pleaded with him to stop, Beghe’s response was, “I don’t give a shit.” Beghe ended up pleading no contest as a result of his out-of-control assault, while ordered to pay out $19,000 so the man could at least cover his medical bills. Alex Gibney won’t tell HBO viewers any of that, nor does he mention Beghe’s co-starring role in a failed, frivolous lawsuit brought by an excommunicated A/V technician who ended up having to pay the Church $42,000 in court costs. That’s because Gibney covers up for bullies like Jason Beghe who resort to violence, calling them his “heroes”.
